Electrical Fire Building Electrical Fire

Macintosh

• The following tools need to be installed on your Macintosh before you can begin building Electrical Fire:

  • CodeWarrior with IDE 2.0

  • MacCVS

  • Perl 5.1.0, install Perl in the same location as your Metrowerks folder.

  • ToolFrontEnd, put it in

    Metrowerks:Metrowerks CodeWarrior:CodeWarrior Plugins:Compilers

  • ToolFrontFrontEnd Panel, put it in

    Metrowerks:Metrowerks CodeWarrior:CodeWarrior Plugins:V2 Preference Panels

  • BURG, put it in

    Metrowerks:CodeWarrior MPW:MPW:Tools

  • UserStartupTS, place the file in

    Metrowerks:CodeWarrior MPW:MPW

    Note: You will need to open the file and modify the MOZ_SRC variable to point to where the ns folder will be stored.

• You can get the files from MacDev.

• The source files for the Electrical Fire project need to be checked out of the CVS repository to your local Macintosh

  • Create a local source directory. For the example here, we have created a directory called ef on the volume Purpose.

  • Launch MacCVS and create a new session.

  • MacCVS needs to be configured for the Electrical Fire. Set the MacCVS preferences like this:

    
    

  • Use the Action menu to checkout the default module.

• Once ElectricalFire is checked out, open ElectricalFire.prj2 in Purpose: ef: ns: electricalfire: Driver: StandAloneJava: macbuild.

• Build ElectricalFire by selecting Project and then Make.

Windows

The canonical development environment for Windows platforms is NT 4.0, using MSVC 5.0.

• First, you must obtain the required build tools for the Windows platform. Note: If you have not already installed MSVC 5.0, you must be install it separately.

  • Check-out the nstools directory

    cvs co nstools

    It is not necessary that nstools and the Electrical Fire sources reside in related directory trees, i.e. you can create C:\nstools to contain your build tools and D:\ns\electricalfire for ef sources.

  • Set your NSTOOLS environment variable to point to your nstools directory

    set NSTOOLS=C:\nstools

  • Prepend the location of your nstools bin directory to your PATH environment variable

    set PATH = C:\nstools\bin;%PATH%

    Note: It is important that the nstools directory appear before any other possibly conflicting directories in the PATH variable. For example, the gmake and uname supplied in the MKS toolkit is not compatible with the versions of these tools in the nstools directory.
    

• Second, check out the Electrical Fire module:

  cvs co ns\electricalfire
  

• Build the NSPR library

  cvs co -r b19970926 ns\nspr20
  cd ns\nspr20
  gmake export

  Note: The current revision tag pulls the NSPR20 libraries that EF uses. This will be regulary updated as needed.

• Once NSPR20 is built, you will need to add the NSPR lib directory to Executable files in MSVC 5.0. Open the Options Dialog from the Tools Menu in MSVC 5.0. There add the path to the directory.

  
  

• Create a \tmp directory for temporary files in the root of the drive which you are using to build, e.g. D:\tmp. (You must do this even if you have TEMP or TMP environment variables that point to another directory, as yacc ignores these variables).

• To build Electrical Fire using the MSVC 5.0 IDE:

  • Start MSVC 5.0 and load the following workspace

    ns\electricalfire\Driver\StandAloneJava\winbuild\ElectricalFire.dsw

  • Select sajava as the active configuration.

  • Under MSVC's Build menu, select "Build sajava.exe"

  • Right-click on the Package project and choose "Build". This will build and install the neccessary native-code support.
