Unix: Status History
[August 24, 1999]
Jim Dunn reports that HP-UX 10.20 builds and runs viewer using the aCC compiler.
Steve Lamm has hacked the tinderbox client script to do properly-timed reporting, and it now uses a driver script so we can stop hacking the main script to change the machine names, etc. If you're running a tinderbox, please check out a new client and test this: mozilla/tools/tinderbox.
The Xlib emedding example is now part of the default build. (ramiro)
Ramiro Estrugo has added support for multiple toolkits in the same build tree.
gfx rendered widgets are scheduled to get turned on soon. (kmcclusk). Some problems here are the URL bar not working, combobox is a little flakey, things like that. Turn this on with:
Viewer: Style|Widget Render Mode|Gfx
Apprunner: Edit|Preferences..|Appearance|Widget Rendering|gfx
[August 22, 1999]
Shawn Packwood has checked in code to get viewer working with Qt.
Linux: bug 8849 is forcing us to consider dropping support for [glibc2.0,kernel2.2]. Redhat 5.2 & equivalent will have problems running apprunner, upgrading to 6.0 works around this problem. (blizzard)
ramiro has been steadily purging the build system of unnecessary couplings, this will increase modularity and help systems like BeOS start building again.
gfx-rendered widgets get turned (all the way) on during the week of Aug. 23. (kmcclusk)
[July 30, 1999]
NECKO has landed, please update to the tip and test this stuff.
blizzard is looking at build / runtime bustage on Linux two days in a row.
Working a glibc fix (in the dlopen() code) to address bug 8849.
pavlov has checked in a fix for tree scrolling.
Start testing SeaMonekey mailnews: copy your 4.5 preferences.js file to /.mozilla/<profile>/prefs.js, start apprunner, things should automagically migrate over. (sspitzer)
[July 14, 1999]
M8 train is about to leave the station, please run this and file bugs.
NECKO is the new networking library, this should be landing soon (early M9)
and should fix a whole class of architectural-related problems.
[June 2, 1999]
Christopher Blizzard is working on a straight Xlib mozilla port; the build links and runs (./configure --enable-toolkit=xlib), send him mail if you're interested in helping.
Recent instability running apprunner; menus disappearing, resize broken. (bug 7417)
[May 29, 1999]
Alexander Larsson has contributed a GTK+ widget which
can be used to easily embed gecko into any gtk application.
(mozilla/webshell/embed/gtk)
To build it you need to add the following configure flag to your mozilla build:
./configure --enable-gtk-mozilla
this will build the library and 2 sample tests. Many thanks to
Alexander Larsson for contribution this very cool widget. (Ramiro)
[May 11, 1999]
xptcall needs a small bit of assembly code to do some stack magic; Intel, Sparc, and PPC have been done, other processors underway. Any given OS needs to explicitly turn XPConnect on, look in js/src/xpconnect/src/Makefile.in and xpcom/libxpt/xptcall/src/md/unix/Makefile.(John Bandhauer)
Ramiro fixed the form submission bug, now we can use bugzilla & stuff.(Ramiro)
[April 14, 1999]
Build now treats NSPR as part of the seamonkey tree. (Ramiro)
[April 12, 1999]
M4 is almost ready to go.
--enable-debug is now the default. (Ramiro)
[March 29, 1999]
Imagelib preformance greatly improved (Ramiro), apprunner image rendering time has been cut in half for some pages.
HP-UX portability fixes (Kipp)
AIX build is making progress, tinderbox on the way(Waqar)
Quantify & Purify are working with Solaris/gcc 2.7.2.3 (Brad,Bruce)
Printing works in viewer! (Don)
Slamm is still getting the kinks out of the new depend mechanism (slamm)
[Evening, March 15, 1999]
Thanks to Tom Pixley for the gtk focus/mouse-down fix (3553), clicking on links and toolbar buttons are working again.
(Mac, Linux. Win32?) Serious redraw problem still exists (3289), style changes triggered by the apprrunner UI are causing unnecessary reflows. You can see the redraws much better if you uncomment
#define NO_DOUBLE_BUFFER in mozilla/view/src/nsViewManager.cpp. This is making things like toolbar button highlighting pathetically slow.
[March 15, 1999]
glib/gtk+ 1.2 is now required to build Mozilla.
We've migrated from {MOZILLA_HOME, .netscape} to {MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME, .mozilla}
[March 10, 1999]
Thanks to Bruce Mitchener and Ramiro Estrugo for getting Solaris/gcc 2.7.x/purify working! Look for Bruce's purify reports in mozilla.patches.
Steve Lamm has greatly improved the Unix build system; see slamm link below, a lot of autoconf reaming.
[Sat Feb 20] Apprunner is in fairly good shape. Linux glibc bug found, fix posted in mozilla.unix and should show up in the build docs. GTK resize fix got checked in!
